FOURTH DAUGHTER LETS IT ALL GO WITH NEW SINGLE ‘HIGHER (JUST A FEELING)’

Scottish electronic artist and producer Fourth Daughter is back with yet another dance floor-ready track, sharing stunning new single, Higher (Just A Feeling). The release is accompanied by a gorgeous music video, directed by Elise Schatz and shot in downtown LA.

Out today 21st August, via music is fun, the energetic and arresting track features the talented artist’s instantly recognisable blend of pulsating synths, luminous soundscapes and her own radiant vocals, resulting in a vibrant and summery sound that’s impossible to ignore. Coming fresh off the back of being selected for BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week for previous single, Look What You've Done, the captivating song feels like going to the club after bathing in the Balearic sun – despite being written and recorded during the depths of winter.

“It was written on the most freezing day at the beginning of December last year, which is kinda funny given how summery the song is,” explained Fourth Daughter, real name Emily Atkinson, who premiered the track during a standout set at Latitude Festival 2024. “I was in the studio for a full week with the same producer and we were a couple days in at this point. We had been writing darker songs so, on this day, I felt like writing the complete opposite to mix it up. The song was written from scratch in about six hours and felt like a total blur because we were just in the zone and on a total high writing it!”

Inspired by artists like Joy Anonymous and Romy, Fourth Daughter wrote Higher (Just A Feeling) to explore the liberating moment of letting go of anything that’s weighing you down, resulting in an uplifting, high energy sound.

She continued: “Lyrically the inspiration was just about how looking forward can actually be the thing to carry you – when you feel optimism about letting go and you're just buzzing. I wish I could bottle the feeling that went into the song that day.”

Growing up the youngest of four daughters, for Emily Atkinson music was a way of escaping the boredom of her small-town-life in the Scottish countryside. Her obsession with music exploded while exploring her parents synth-heavy CD collection, and soon enough she dove in head first, emerging as a classically trained pianist inspired by the likes of Rufus Du Sol, Jamie XX and Sylvan Esso to name a few.
