With support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing already, radio tastemaker/DJ/producer Niamh drops debut single ‘The Golden Ratio’ on 25th July.

The release marks a new third career focus on producing, now that the North East-born, Manchester-based DJ ‘s Reprezent Radio residency ‘Into The Deep’ plus her shows on Rinse FM et al are magnets for lovers of new music; while Niamh has also established herself as a sought-after club DJ with the likes of Parklife Festival, Boiler Room (x2), Corsica Studios, The Warehouse Project, Amber’s, Wire and Sneaky Pete’s under her belt, having shared line-ups with Kettama, Juicy Romance, Evian Christ, Mall Grab, Peach, salute, SPFDJ, Mura Masa, Mella Dee…

‘The Golden Ratio’: a darkly gleaming club track, with a powerful breaksy techno beat carrying richly woven layers of distorted, dreamy percussion, including ‘vocal’ percussion, while psychedelic swoops attend on a hypnotic tolling of notes like sea-sunk church bells. Entrancing, while also eminently danceable.

‘There’s a lil piece of me left in this track. It’s exactly what I’d wanna hear at the end of the night and hug my mates to’ Niamh says. ‘The track embodies what to expect from the Niamh sound. It pays homage to my years of classical training (specifically violin) through the inclusion of the processed strings for the lead melody, contrasted with a no holds barred, ‘hello I’m here’ in your face approach with the bass heavy kicks. It balances dark intensity with glittering femininity. Kinda like me.’

Embarking on carefully curated trips ‘into the deep’, Niamh’s DJ sets weave invigorating soundscapes across pulsating, hypnotic techno to psychedelic, tripped-out electro, trance, breakbeat & beyond. Her debut single, founded on youthful classical and theoretical music training and years of honing her craft, is true to this preoccupation with the depths – judging by her success in other areas of music, her production career will also reach the heights.

‘Even the name feels deeply personal; its literal meaning equates to a divine, natural proportion and I wrote the track wearing a necklace I bought that day from a collection called ‘The Golden Ratio’, from a jewellers where my family are from in the North East. I hope you love it, and I hope it rattles you in the club when you least expect it.’

Niamh ‘The Golden Ratio’ drops 25th July. Buy/stream it here or on Bandcamp.
