Protection, aka CHVRCHES’ Iain Cook and fellow respected Glasgow musician/producer Scott Paterson drop single ‘Something Real’, out now, heralding their upcoming ‘SEEDS II’ EP. As Protection, they enjoy exploring genres and drum styles like breakbeat, techno, house, UKG, from ambient to frantic, from 80s/90s onward.
Previous singles from ‘SEEDS II’ - upbeat DnB ‘Thirst Shrine’, drum-rich thrill ride ‘On Love’ (feat. that well known vocal) and moody, multi-textured ‘THX’ – already won glowing, and growing, support from Clash, Mixmag et al.
‘Something Real’: lays down hefty, breaksy bass/percussion and a synthesised morse-code of vocal riff, lifted yet rendered more melancholic by the haunting sound of pitch-shifted singing. ‘We’re both enjoying big bass at the moment.’ (Scott)
Iain is still playing guitar/bass/keys with CHVRCHES, whose recent tour included their sensational Glastonbury set, while Scott, who played with various prestigious bands through the 2010s, has been producing /writing for other artists in his Glasgow studio, Sleepwalk. Protection are yet to announce their first live gigs, something to look forward to along with their imminent EP ‘SEEDS II’.
‘The entire premise of the Protection project was to have fun together in the exploration of music and seeing what our version of a known style sounds like.’
‘Something Real’ is out now on Saint Lucky Records: https://protection.lnk.to/somethingreal.
The full EP ‘SEEDS II’ drops on September 1st.
