INTERVIEW: PETE MOSS

As the flowers begin to bloom and we enter spring, Uniting Souls Music continues their steady series of early releases for the year. This release is a four part concept EP detailing the story of two souls who form a bond that possesses love and the power to crown mountains and oceans. It is a story of emotional development, empathy and love.

PETE MOSS is that kind of artist who doesn't sew without a thread, who knows what they're doing at all times and leaves nothing to chance, even though sometimes their decisions may seem unusual or out of place. And if, in addition, after a consecration in the underground, we see him doing his thing with SAY IT RIGHT, it leaves us even more surprised.

We have had the pleasure of interviewing PETE MOSS, and this has been the result.

Q. What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music? A. Hi! I think it was a pretty natural evolution for me. I have been a music fanatic my whole life. I started hearing other djs and electronic music at an early age and was immediately infatuated by the sounds. Q. Do you remember any album or concert that has changed everything? A. The albums that changed everything for me were not electronic but they contained the same feeling. I grew up listening to Chaka khan, Earth Wind and Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Marley, classic r&b, some Brit pop, freestyle, you name it really Q. Since you got into this professionally, what did you miss the most nationally, internationally and on the contrary, what helped you the most to grow, even to believe in yourself? A. I learned a long time ago I truly make music for other people to enjoy. I used to think I did everything myself but as I’ve grown I see that I had smart people around me guiding me on how to keep my integrity in this business . Q. How was the music scene living in your city affected with this murky pandemic situation? A. It was a wrap . Done. Nada. I went a little crazy. I didn’t really make music during that time because it wasn’t going to reach the dance floor. Q. What are your favorite places to hang out in the city? A. I hang out in the country now after decades in south Philly. I go for rides on my motorcycle and play with my kiddos Q. Have you had time to focus on making music, spending time with your family, or planning future projects? A. I always make time for that to keep balance in my mind. Music is natural to create. It always is happening in the studio. Q. How was your recent remix for ASW made? A. Well I did the first mix on the dubby side. Using a few vocal bits and manipulating them. Then I did a mix using more of the vocals and it came out quite layered and deep. I was pretty happy with it overall :)

Q. How did you find it working with Rachel Vick as a vocalist & also… how did you both meet? A. I met Rachel in Seattle at our record release party for the first time. Super nice and talented. It was a pleasure working in her vocals

Q. As for your studio, what is your setup currently made of? A. About 1000 digital synths and drum machines . Not really 1000 but all I need to create Q. What's the one item you'll never get rid of, no matter what? A. My genelec 1031 speakers Q. Finally. What would you say is the definition of your sound? A. The definition is my opus. No matter how much I grow as an artist certain sounds and arrangements stay the same. I can only do me, otherwise it wouldn’t feel off!
