INVOCAMVS: SEÑAL MUERTA [MAØ Records]

For a new techno label, the first release is inevitably a statement of intent. There is no catalogue to provide context, no accumulated history to soften the edges of the debut. Everything has to happen at once: the sound, the aesthetic, the choice of artist and the sense of direction.
With Señal Muerta, MAØ Records makes that direction immediately apparent.
The Barcelona imprint enters the scene with a four-track EP from Invocamvs, the dark-techno project of producer José Manuel Díaz Forte. Active under the Invocamvs name since 2023, Díaz Forte brings more than two decades of production experience to a project centred on industrial textures, hypnotic rhythm and intricate sonic construction.
The result is a release that understands techno primarily as a study in repetition and pressure.
The four tracks — “Maston”, “No Limit”, “Señal Muerta” and “The Animal” — operate within a deliberately focused palette. There are no unnecessary stylistic detours. Instead, Invocamvs concentrates on the fundamental materials of the genre: kick drums, percussion, loops, layers and gradual movement.
That restraint is important.
Techno can be deceptively simple on the surface. A kick repeats. A percussion pattern locks into place. A sequence circles back on itself. But beneath that apparent simplicity lies an enormous amount of room for variation. The question becomes how much information can be introduced without breaking the hypnotic state.
That tension appears to be central to Invocamvs' approach.
“Maston” establishes the EP's physical character, presenting rhythm as the main organising principle. The track functions as an entry point into a sound world where industrial weight and rhythmic detail coexist.
Rather than treating percussion simply as a means of increasing intensity, the Invocamvs aesthetic gives it a structural role. Different layers become part of the architecture, creating movement within repetition.
“No Limit” develops that idea further. Its title could easily describe the philosophy behind the project: the loop has no fixed destination, and its repetition creates the conditions for increasingly subtle shifts in perception.
This is where hypnotic techno becomes particularly effective. The music does not necessarily need to change dramatically to feel as though it is moving. A small alteration in rhythm, texture or emphasis can become significant when the surrounding structure remains stable.
The title track, “Señal Muerta”, brings the EP's central concept into focus.
A dead signal suggests interruption, silence and failed communication, but also the possibility of residual noise — information that remains after transmission has stopped. It is an evocative image for a record that operates through pulses, layers and repetition.
The closing track, “The Animal”, completes the sequence without abandoning its established vocabulary. Rather than forcing a dramatic conclusion, the EP maintains its internal coherence until the final track.
That coherence is perhaps the most revealing quality of MAØ001.
MAØ Records describes its catalogue as a collection of sonic micro-universes, with an emphasis on raw textures, multirhythmic structures and carefully developed progressions. Señal Muerta follows that philosophy closely.
It is a self-contained environment.
The project also has a strong relationship with the physical side of techno. Invocamvs has developed his sets through clubs and festivals across Europe, with vinyl playing a particularly important role in his approach. That background helps explain the balance between compositional complexity and dancefloor functionality.
The tracks are not detached experiments. They are built around the physical grammar of techno.
But neither are they reduced to that grammar.
The drums provide the body; the layered rhythmic structures provide the detail. The hypnotic element emerges from the relationship between the two.
This is what gives Señal Muerta a clear identity as a debut release. MAØ Records is not attempting to define every possible version of dark techno. Instead, it establishes a specific area of interest and gives Invocamvs enough space to explore it.
As first statements go, MAØ001 is deliberately focused.
Four tracks. One producer. A narrow sonic palette. A strong emphasis on rhythm, texture and repetition.
For a label beginning its catalogue, that is enough.
Señal Muerta does not present itself as a conclusion or a definitive statement about techno. It is a starting point — a first coordinate in what MAØ Records intends to develop into a broader catalogue.
The transmission begins here.
