The calming nature of yoga and the high energy of dance music may seem worlds apart, but with her new single, Enter Nyx, Jessica Skye proves combining two seemingly opposing passions can create a unique sense of flow.
Having spent much of the last decade touring the globe, teaching yoga by day and stepping behind the decks at iconic venues by night, the LA-based producer, DJ and yogi has channelled inspiration from her yoga journey into stunning new music for the dance floor.
Out today 26th January via Platoon as the first single from forthcoming album, Fluō State 002, Enter Nyx boasts a rich blend of organic sounds with deep and melodic grooves, while crisp driving percussion carries the energy under ethereal vocals and hypnotic strings.
“Whenever I DJ or teach yoga, I think of it as a ceremony,” explained Jessica, who is an Apple Fitness+ trainer, curating and leading yoga workouts, mindful cooldowns and meditations. “I'm literally holding a space for people to relax, release and move to the music.
For me, music is such a powerful tool to reset yourself, whether it’s in a flow or on the dancefloor, so I really want to create that feeling with my new single and album.”
Pulling influence from her 14-year yoga journey, Jessica says Enter Nyx bridges the gap between wellness and dance music, two somewhat polarised paths.
“Enter Nyx came together really organically in the studio. I've always been drawn to ethereal vocals, so you'll hear them in almost all of my tracks, and that's sometimes where I start. I thought Enter Nyx was going to be a much chiller tune, but as the bass and percussion came together, it quickly evolved into more of a driving feeling record.
“The song really leans into the idea of a ceremony – the prayer-like vocals, hypnotic strings, and break-out create a moment of tension and release. It’s the peak track of the album, and one I will use on dance floors to create a special moment.”
Fluō State 002, is a larger body of work inspired by her endeavours across wellness and music, with the name deriving from the Latin word for ‘flow’. The album follows Jessica’s previous collection of idyllic soundscapes and deep grooves, Fluō State 001, with both releases including tracks for the dancefloor as well ambient sonic experiences designed to enhance listeners’ meditation or wellness practice.
