Jordan Peak’s triumphant return from a cystic fibrosis-enforced hiatus keeps up the pressure with three-tracker ‘Party Vibe’, out February 28th. Despite the extra problems a genetic life-limiting condition like CF imposes, Peak’s talent shines and he steps back into the limelight with a newfound energy that’s winning him support from the likes of Radio 1 and his peers, and label signings including Edible, Kneaded Pains and Moxy Musik.
This time on his own imprint, Peak Trax 002 follows his ‘Alive At Night’ EP on Javi Bora’s Too Many Rules label, prominently featured by Sarah Story on her R1 Friday night show.
Party Vibe – lyrics written by Peak and performed by vocalist Londoner Jodie Paige, whose plangent but robotic intoning of the emotional upbeat lyric couplet defies gender expectations. House beats keep the dance going beneath a weirdly compulsive soundscape of off-beat fluttering riffs. ‘Are you down for the ride?’ You will be.
All In The Name Of What? layers sabre-rattling techno beats over sharp, chopped synth phrases joined by a stealthy bass riff as the title vocal repeats until the question ‘what?’ becomes a mantra and the track’s raison d’etre.
Do You Feel It? like industrial machinery left running in an abandoned post-apocalyptic factory, building to teeth-tingling pitch until the vocal ‘wanna lose control?’ becomes ‘trol(l)’ in the breakdown as the machinery jams. A whole film in a track, a film you can dance to.
Jordan was already making his mark before complications of his CF flared up causing physical and mental challenges, enforcing a career gap. Now he’s back, with no impetus lost, and a store of startling new music further establishing his reputation.
‘Party Vibe’ is out now on Peak Trax. Stream it on Spotify.
