“10 tracks of high-quality dance music, delving deep into all things jazz, house & disco, showing why KID SIMIUS is one of the most innovative producers around at the moment.”
- Shall Not Fade
On August 23, Bristol-based label Shall Not Fade releases "José", KID SIMIUS' highly anticipated next album, already gaining club support by electronic music mainstays such as Amê, Massimiliano Pagliara, Terr, Kikelomo, Catz ’n Dogz and many more.
The ten tracks are deep, yet incredibly joyful, colourful and multi-faceted reflections on what KID SIMIUS has been up to during the last couple of years - both musically and personal. As we all know, things happened. It almost felt like the world stopped turning for a while. Choosing his first name as the album title, is more than apt. His music has always been about his very own approach to creativity.
Jose Antonio Garcia Soler's music has been a very personal affair right from the very start. The Granada-born and currently Berlin-based musician got into music, when he witnessed his grandfather playing the electric bass. Fascinated by the deep frequencies and the specific sounds that particular instrument produced. He soon started to play guitar, discovered DJing, electronic music and the DIY-driven approach made possible by the fast-paced development of technology. He made his way onto the dance-floor scene step by step, developing his signature sound by marrying all the sounds he loves. José always enjoys making a point of creating hybrid experiences both while playing records and recording his first own tunes. A sound is a sound. A groove is a groove. Music is music, after all.
After leaving Granada and moving to Berlin via Oslo, KID SIMIUS quickly became an experienced DJ and an integral part of the flourishing music scene of the German capital. Taking his music to new international heights, he released his first record in 2012. His self-produced vibes and interpretations of what dance music actually is sky-rocketed ever since.
With artist-driven releases, tracks and remixes on labels like Permanent Vacation, Running Back, Studio Barnhus, Watergate Records and his own imprint Jirafa Records under his belt, with "José" KID SIMIUS is ready to finally take over the world. The musical flood gates are wide open.
Six years after "Planet Of The Simius", his third full-length "José" re-defines his approach to sequenced ecstasy. Backed-up by his numerous collaborations and long-standing relationships with artists like Bonaparte and Marteria, KID SIMIUS has been busy redefining his very own approach, bridging styles and genres, which he never really accepted as given dividers or no-go's.
The ten tracks of "José" carry across this exact approach to energy. Music is music. The opener "The Cure" presents itself as a throwback to his early days, when KID SIMIUS started playing guitar. Simplistic, melancholic, almost New Wave-like chord progressions set the tone, only to be greeted by sun-drenched rave stabs, transforming the track into a sonic piece of memorabilia. While "Karaoke" is a massive reminder of the fact that Italo Disco is here to stay, the two collaborations with Bonaparte underline KID SIMIUS' diverse approach to styles and genres and his ability to create something new out of dance-music's rich history. Apart from Bonaparte, other collaborators include Chico Blanco and Acidheaven & Philipp Gropper. And with the tune "José", KID SIMIUS has invented the concept of the musical business card.
Comfortably meandering House, Balearic, Disco, Uptempo and Breakbeat-infused electronics, hints of Acid, the past, the present and the future, "José" is a vibrant reminder that the dance floor is a sanctuary where people come together in harmony, embracing the fact that with music we can overcome boundaries and create positivity.
It is this idea that KID SIMIUS will take on the road. The "Ask For My Number Tour" commences on Sep 21 in Granada, with gigs all across Europe. See below for dates.
