REVIEW: Azaad debuts on Dungeon Meat with hardhitting four-track EP ‘Sonic Boom’

Dungeon Meat are always guaranteed to release sonic weapons echoing their mantra and objective; ‘to bring the finest club cuts designed to detonate dancefloors’.

This rings true with the 13th release from the label, an EP from hot new talent Azaad. The dynamite is stacked, packed and ready to blow up clubs worldwide and the lucky few who possessed the promos, have been doing just that with the EP doing the rounds in establishments, festivals and events all over the world including DC-10, Bret, Underground Ibiza, Houghton and so many more.

Each track summarizes his intentions in this compilation, looking for novelty without losing nostalgia, playing with the genre but without falling into predictable tricks, nor in the arrogance of those who castle themselves in a genre or mannerism to show that they have personality. Paradoxically, to achieve simplicity and lucidity requires experience and the ability to know how to free oneself from the limitations of conditioning, and this first compilation is a healthy example of this. For this very reason, the best of Azaad's work is not so much what it contains, but what it promises: once the necessary balance is taken, it is known that what has to come from Azaad in the future will be even better.

Azaad Bio:

Emerging out of London, Azaad sets himself apart by presenting a highly mature, raw and direct sound with impressive ease. Drawing from numerous influences throughout his ever-growing record collection, Azaad’s performances often feature lost 90s UKG gems and rare finds from the golden era of US, UK, French & Italian house, as well as his own productions.

2022 saw Azaad unleash a streak of releases on highly regarded UK labels such as MicroHertz and Beeyou. The releases were extremely well received and supported throughout, gathering airtime from the likes of Brawther, Tristan Da Cunha, Enzo Siragusa, Reiss, Chris Stussy, Archie Hamilton, Sweely, Fabe and Laidlaw (to name a few).

With a growing number of scheduled performances between the UK and Europe, supported by an impressive release calendar for 2023, Azaad is laying the foundations to become one of the industry’s most unique and respected artists.
